Mr. Can Clean garbage bin cleaners owe a debt of gratitude to North Shore Bears: our unmatched level of service (same-day cleaning and bin return) came about due to the fact we live in Bear Country. Find out more about our fundraising efforts for the North Shore Black Bear Society below. We have also teamed up with End of the Line General Store in Lynn Valley to sell our We Love Bears hats. They are and all dollars go directly to the North Shore Black Bear Society.

Why Clean Garbage Bins Matter
Here are some facts everyone on the North Shore knows:
-
Bears roam the neighbourhood.
-
Your garbage cans smell way better to them than to you.
North Shore bears aren’t trespassers; they’re locals. The North Shore Black Bear Society has spent decades reminding us that coexistence means managing attractants – starting with your garbage bins. A single whiff of last night’s salmon skin can draw a bear from kilometers away. When bears become habituated to easy meals, everyone loses. We love bears but we also love our pets, children, and family. When bears become habituated to free meals from dirty garbage cans, everyone loses but unfortunately the bears more frequently face the negative outcomes when we are really the ones to blame.
North Vancouver Garbage Bin Cleaners
Keeping your garbage cans clean is just part of the equation when it comes to bear-safe garbage collection. We began Mr. Can Clean on the North Shore so we are experts in cleaning garbage bins with an eye to bear safety. We clean the same day as garbage collection, we bring your cans off the street for you, and we finish each clean with a pine-scented spray that bears dislike.
Other Vancouver garbage bin cleaners can’t match our level of service and that’s all thanks to the North Shore bears. We do these things naturally, for one, because we want to provide the highest level of service possible. In North Van, it doesn’t make sense to come clean your garbage bins the day after collection, like most garbage bin cleaners do. We want them cleaned and out of the way of bears. That’s better for you and it’s better for the bears! Not only that, it saves you an extra trip bringing your garbage bins back in from the curb – we do that for you!
Mr. Can Clean Tips for Bear-Smart Living
Garbage bin cleaning is just part of the equation when it comes to peaceful co-existence of humans and North Shore bears.
-
Lock your bins down: Keep carts secured, locked up, or inside until collection morning. We are so happy to see how many of our customers keep their garbage bins inside sheds, in their garage (we definitely recommend a monthly cleaning if you keep them inside!) or have “bear-proof locks”.
-
Clean monthly (or bi-weekly in areas of high bear activity): We typically recommend to keep your garbage bins cleaned monthly but in areas like Deep Cove many of our customers choose to go for bi-weekly cleaning. Monthly service is $30 for two bins and bi-weekly is $25 per visit.
-
Learning is fun: Download the North Shore Black Bear Society’s free guide, Living in Bear Country and share it with neighbours.
